Edwards is proud to have hit the milestone of 130 years manufacturing world class sports equipment. The company was founded in 1884, when it started to manufacture sports netting in the Dorset market town of Bridport, world famous for its history of rope, twine and net making.

After Edwards established itself as the market leader in sports netting production, the company then went on to manufacture sports posts to accompany the range of nets. The posts evolved from being wooden, handmade and painted, to steel or aluminium, powder coated by automated machinery, in order to meet the demands of modern safety and quality standards.

Over the past 130 years Edwards has manufactured and supplied sports equipment to hundreds of thousands of customers, ranging from schools and local sports clubs to national venues and prestige events.

Just a few of the highlights are:

  • Manufacturing the first patented football net invented by J A Brodie in 1891
  • Supplying the goals and nets for England’s favourite World Cup in 1966
  • Supplying numerous Olympic Games including 1976 Montreal, 1980 Moscow, 2008 Beijing and of course the most recent; London 2012
  • Installing indoor cricket netting (including our unique tension cricket nets) to the MCC Cricket Academy at Lords
  • The supply and installation of football goals and nets to Everton’s Finch Farm Training Complex in 2007 and Tottenham’s Hotspur Way Training Centre in 2012
  • Annually supplying the Wimbledon Championships, through Dunlop Slazenger, with tennis court equipment including tennis nets, posts, umpires chairs and court surround screens

In 2014 the evolution of Edwards will continue. We have distributed our new 140 page catalogue and March will see the launch of a revamped website. Both contain new products, enhanced specifications and more information about the company. We will continue to improve our existing range, design new sports equipment and update our product information literature to ensure that Edwards remains the world’s number one choice for sports equipment.
