Before purchasing a tennis net for your club, school, sports facility, or personal use, you need to think about a few things.
There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer, so we'll discuss the considerations you need to make, the different types of tennis nets available, and what we recommend based on how you plan to use your net.
For example, a professional tennis club that holds international tournaments will need a higher-quality net than a recreational facility.
Your net's quality will also depend on how often you plan to use it. If it will experience heavy usage, the quality needs to reflect that.
Here are some examples of nets specifically designed to withstand heavy and frequent use:
Below are other considerations you'll need to make before making the all-important purchase.
If you plan to use your nets for competitive play, you need to ensure they adhere to ITF (International Tennis Federation) regulations. You can read more about ITF regulations below.

Tennis nets must be a specific width and height to ensure fairness and consistency in all matches. Otherwise, opponents could have an unfair advantage/disadvantage.
You should look for a net that is no more than 3 feet high at the centre and 3.6 feet at the posts. For doubles, your net should be 42 feet long and 33 feet long for singles.
Top tip: A full-size doubles net offers more versatility if the court is used for both singles and doubles matches. Consider this when choosing between a singles or doubles net.
The net must be strong enough to withstand constant ball impact, tension pressure, and outdoor weather conditions (if used outside).
Poor-quality nets fray, sag, or deteriorate quickly, leading to more frequent replacements and maintenance issues. It's best to start with a high-quality net, like one from Edwards.
You should look for a net with braided or twisted polyethylene, which is best for longevity as it resists stretching and breaking.
The headband protects the net from fraying at the top, where balls and rackets often make contact. A low-quality headband can crack, tear, or absorb moisture, leading to early deterioration.
We'd recommend a vinyl or polyester headband for long-term durability.
You need to choose a net with a suitable mesh size, so balls don't pass through the net on impact, which can disrupt play. ITF recommends choosing a net with a small mesh size so there is no risk of this happening.
The standard mesh size is 45mm, so you should look for this when choosing your net.
Higher-quality nets last longer and perform better, reducing the need for frequent replacements, which is more economical in the long run. While cheap nets are likely to sag, tear, or fade more quickly.
Of course, if you don't need the highest-grade tennis net, you don't need to opt for the most expensive. There are budget options out there for those who want a high-quality net without having to spend a lot.
If you think your net will be involved in frequent play, it's important to choose a net that can withstand it.

You need to make sure your net is compatible with the tennis posts you have or plan to buy. This will facilitate the proper installation and tension.
You should also consider whether you want your net to be portable or whether you prefer a fixed installation.
We have a selection of tennis posts, both square and rounded, that will be compatible with your new Edwards net! Shop below or head to our Tennis Post section, where you'll also find sockets and anchors.

As you can see above, our tennis nets are divided into three categories: Club, Matchplay, and Championship (which are used at Wimbledon).
We also have a bespoke netting option, perfect for recreational or personal use—we'll talk more about this later.
We offer different variations of each net, so below is a short breakdown of each.
Customers can choose between single-stitched or double-stitched finishes and vinyl, polyester, or premium polyester.
Each style provides a unique combination of strength and flexibility to cater to the specific needs of each player. Let's find out their properties:
• Vinyl tennis headband: This headband is made using quality vinyl material. It’s our best value-for-money option and is excellent for schools and club tennis. They're available with double-stitching.
• Polyester tennis headband: This is a level up from our vinyl headbands, offering more durability both in terms of gameplay and weather conditions. The polyester we use can withstand UV rays, so it’s great for outdoor courts. They're available with double and quad-stitching.
• Premium polyester tennis headband: This is our highest-quality option and is most popular with professional clubs and matches. The polyester is UV-stabilised and very tough, so it can withstand repeated outdoor (and indoor) gameplay. They're available in double and quad-stitching.

Here at Edwards Sports, we understand that the material a tennis net is made with is paramount to the quality of play you can expect.
That’s why we use the strongest and most durable materials for our tennis net bodies.
For the most heavy-duty option, our net bodies are made with braided polyethylene netting. This material is thicker and stronger than regular polyethylene, making it perfect for high-level tournaments or matches.
With its ability to withstand rigorous matches and adverse weather conditions, braided polyethyene is a reliable and long-lasting option for tennis enthusiasts worldwide.
Our braided netting is available in 2.5mm and 3.5mm, depending on the type of net you’re purchasing.
Some of our nets have a double netting top, which further enhances the durability and stability of the tennis net, prolonging its life.
Below are our recommendations based on the type of facility you own or the type of play you plan to use your net for.
As we said before, tennis nets aren’t one-size-fits-all, so if you want to stray from our recommendations, by all means, do so. You know what’s best for your establishment (or even your garden!).
Let’s get into it:
Championship Nets are our prestigious top-of-the-line option for professional tournaments and matches. They’re made with the strongest 3.5mm braided polyethylene netting material with 45mm knotted mesh.
They also come with vinyl, polyester, and premium polyester headband options in double or quad-stitching. As with all our professional-quality nets, our championship net bodies are available in the IFT standard 42ft size (doubles) and 33ft size (singles).
So, if you're looking for a professional-quality net that exceeds requirements — that’s good enough for Wimbledon, may we add — you should choose one of our Championship Tennis Nets.
Matchplay Nets are for high levels of play, such as inter-club games or tournaments. They’re made with our signature 2.5mm twisted polyethylene netting and knotted 45mm mesh.
This net type is available in our standard size of 42ft (doubles) and custom sizes on request.
The headband on our Matchplay Nets has double or quad stitching in our vinyl and standard and premium polyester materials, providing more strength and support during intense gameplay.
That's why this net is perfect for clubs that hold regular tournaments but don't require top-of-the-range quality or have the budget for it.
Club Nets are perfect for recreational club games or school use. They’re made with 2.5mm braided polyethylene netting with 45mm mesh and come in our standard 42 foot length.
They're also our budget-friendly option, ideal for facilities, like schools, that don't have substantial equipment budgets.
They have a headband, available in vinyl and polyester with double-stitching, providing durability and stability during gameplay.
Of course, if you require a heavier-duty net, you should opt for one of our above options.
If you're a bit of a tennis fanatic and enjoy practising the sport in your garden or playing with friends and family, you may not want a top-of-the-range professional tennis net (you might not have the space for it!).
That's why we recommend opting for a bespoke tennis net. This way, you can choose the exact size for the perfect fit in your space.
We also recommend looking at our Mini Tennis Net and Post if you want to play tennis on a smaller scale. It's manufactured with 2.5mm polyethylene and a vinyl headband.
Having the correct tennis net for your facility is extremely important because it directly affects the quality of play and overall player experience.
Professional tournaments need nets that reflect the quality of play, yet schools won't need a super high-spec net and can opt for something more child-friendly, like our Club range.
At Edwards Sports, our mission is to provide the best quality tennis nets that cater to the specific needs of players at every level of the game.
With our wide range of options in net types and headband materials, we are confident you will find the perfect fit for your game, and we hope we've given you the tools on how to do just that.
